Will solid wood doors hold up?

Today door companies offer 3 types of doors: Steel, Fiberglass and Wood. When doing a comparison on these doors it is important to understand that 99.9% of steel and fiberglass doors are mass-produced and made the same even though many companies will stress how much better quality their door is to another.

Companies that make wood doors however make their doors differently from each other, which is very important when doing comparisons when shopping for a new entry door. The most important thing to consider on a wood door is the type of wood the door is made out of. The reason this is the most important thing to consider is simply security and being exposed to weather conditions.

If you plan on purchasing a door exposed to weather, does it not make sense to build a door out of wood that holds up to weather? This is the reason why we make our doors out of woods that are typical to boat building, and this has been proven for centuries. The wood we use is extremely hard as well as very stable and we use the same wood on our door frames. This is very important when considering security. You would practically need a sledgehammer to break into our doors.

The other thing to consider is whether or not the door is of one completely solid hardwood or just a veneer on top of other types of wood (engineered wood) . The reason companies sell doors with veneer’s on them is simply it is cheaper to make. Something else to consider is the finish used on the door. Will it hold up after time? All of our finishes we use are meant for boats and they have a great proven record for longevity.

That does not mean however that the door is maintenance free. There is no such thing as maintenance free products. All doors will and do require the odd maintenance whether wood, steel or fiberglass. This is why we offer a local maintenance service for customers who are not willing to maintain their door.

So to answer the question “Will a solid wood door hold up?” We guarantee our doors will and we offer a Lifetime Warranty against rot to back up our claim.

I read on your site that some doors have functioning windows?

Yes, most of our doors do. We are pretty much the only company that offers this. Most doors have some sort of glass in them, so we figured why not make the door so the glass is function able. This is excellent for security reasons: you don’t even have to open your door if there is a stranger at your door, and you can get a breeze as well without opening your door. Which eliminates the need for screen doors.

Do you sell your doors unfinished?
